Research and publications

A protocol, applied research, and a study of cognition.

The publications document a connected body of work: Foresight provides the method, the Longevity Research Program applies it to biological evidence, and Reverse Engineering Cognition investigates the systems behind judgment and reasoning.

Each publication belongs to the same research practice.

Begin with the protocol, see how it supports an applied biological research program, or explore the forthcoming study of cognition.

Foresight v1.5

The published field manual for a protocol that connects evidence, judgment, planning, and execution.

Cover of Foresight by Shawn Lawyer

Twenty chapters · three appendices

Make the basis of important work visible.

Foresight begins with an objective and builds a structured record of observations, claims, evidence, inferences, assumptions, unknowns, risks, decisions, and next actions. The protocol keeps those elements distinct while showing how they affect one another.

The purpose is to make complex work inspectable while it is happening and reviewable after decisions are made. The field manual includes verification gates, record templates, field cards, and a daily operating checklist.

Publication in progress

The complete first cycle is being prepared for publication.

The series studies cognition as an integrated system. It moves from prediction and motivation through learning, emotion, self-modeling, simulation, concepts, belief, social cognition, extended cognition, causation, and scientific reasoning.
